The local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers’ sorority donated several bags of stuffed animals to the Troy Fire Department to be given to children involved in emergency situations including house fires and vehicle accidents. Brandy Cox, TFD fire marshal, said, even when children are not victims of the accidents, they become upset and fearful because of the surrounding situations. Handing a crying child a Teddy bear can have a calming effect, he said. Kaye Jinright, ADK member, said Teddy bears provide comfort and give a child something tangible to hold on toe during times of crisis. Cox said Teddy bears also help forge a bond between an officer and a child. “A Teddy bear also gets a child’s attention away from the stress of the incident,” he said. The Troy firefighters expressed appreciation to the Alpha Delta Kappa members for their generosity and their caring for the community.
