Patriot pitching allowed just two hits in their 5-2 win over Jackson Academy in the opening round of the Monroe County baseball tournament on Friday.

The Patriots improve to 6-1.

Tristan Carter and Tyler Floyd combined to shut down the Eagle offense. Carter got the start for the Patriots and lasted four and a third innings, surrendering two unearned runs on two hits and three walks. Floyd pitched the remaining two and two thirds innings without allowing a hit.

The offense needed just one inning to do damage, scoring all five runs in the fourth. The Patriots tallied eight hits led by Cole McWhorter and Tyler Hussey who both finished 2-3. McWhorter also picked up an RBI.

Like the Patriots, the Eagles did all their scoring in the fourth inning. They totaled two runs on one hit, two walks and an error.

The Patriots answered by having their first three batters reach base. McWhorter drove in Hussey for the first run on a line drive single to right field. Cody Hollis evened the score when he grounded out scoring Reece Burbage. Reed Jinright gave the Patriots a two-run lead when he singled in both Clay Barron and Hunter Jones. Wood Jinright scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

The Patriots will continue play today when they take on Monroe at 9 a.m. followed by Morgan at 11:30 a.m.
