Tickets for the spring production of Alabama’s Official Folklife Play, “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge go on sale today and are available by calling 334-344-9427 or 334-685-5525.

Tickets prices remain the same at $25, which Mernette Bray, chair of the sponsoring Brundidge Historical Society’s play committee, said is the best ticket going.

The ticket includes the award winning, two-act original folklife play, a full country supper with dessert and the pre-show.

“The BHS is a non-profit organization and our mission is to preserve and promote our physical and cultural heritage,” Bray said. “We don’t know of a better way accomplish our mission than with an original folklife play that is performed in a historic building that was a 1940 Works Progress Administration (WPA) project.”

Bray said those who worked for the WPA were said to just “piddle around” so the WPA project was dubbed, We Piddle Around, thus the name for the theater on the corner of Main Street and East Troy Street in Brundidge.

“We sincerely hope that those who come to supper with us leave believing all of our piddlin’ has been worthwhile,” Bray said.

The spring production of “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” will celebrate 200 performances of the folklife play that received the Governor’s Tourism Award in 2008.

“This will be a milestone season for us and we have two cast members, Lawrence Bowden and Johnny Steed, who have been in every performance,” Bray said. “We have two charter members who are still members of the cast, Sarah Bowden and Millie Baker. And we have a large number of veteran cast members. Some of them had logged 10 years or more.”

And, there are members of the spring cast that will be on stage at the We Piddle Around Theater for the first time.

“We always welcome new ‘family’ members and are looking forward to the creativity and energy that new members bring to the play,” Bray said. “We are excited about the spring production of ‘Come Home’ and invite everyone to come sit around the supper table with us because we do have some stories to tell.”
