The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans kicked off their long awaited season with a 8-5 win over the New Brockton Game Cocks on Thursday night.

The Lady Trojans scored in all but two innings in the win on Thursday evening.

The back-breaker came in the seventh when they scored two runs, right after the Gamecocks had pulled within two at 6-4.

Molly Kate Sanders took the ball as the Trojans starting pitcher against the Gamecocks. Sanders threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five batters and allowing one base on balls.

The Trojans were out-hit in the contest 9-8, but had five different players reach base via a hit, led by Sanders who went a perfect 3-3 with four RBIs. Rose Snyder finished 2-4, while Sidney Armstrong, Lindsey Fox and Gracie Williams all had one hit each.

After the Gamecocks took an early 1-0 lead in the first, the Trojans answered in the second when they scored two runs– one on a groundout by Williams scoring Fox and the other on a fielding error that scored Grayson Adams.

After adding another run in the third inning, the Trojans looked to gain a little separation when they scored three runs in the fifth inning, two of which came on a double by Sanders that scored Armstrong and Tucker Earls. Sanders drove in the final two runs in the seventh on a single that scored Armstrong and Fox.

The Trojans will be back in action on today when they travel to take part in the Big Horn Classic.

Goshen 7 Opp 6

The Goshen Eagles pulled off a dramatic 7-6 win over Opp in the 2017 season opener on Thursday.

The Eagles entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-4, before rallying to score three runs to take the lead. Sydni Garrett drove in the first run of the inning when she reached on an error scoring Kate Warrick to bring the score to 6-5. Lydia Harrison tied the contest when she singled to the right center gap sending Brooke Bennett home. The Eagles scored the winning run after Brittany Jacobs reached on another error and scored on a drive by Garrett.

Garrett took the mound to start the game for the Eagles. She threw five innings, allowing four hits, while striking out six.

Hannah Calhoun picked up the win for the Eagles by pitching the game’s final two innings, while allowing just one hit.

Calhoun also led the Eagles at the plate by finishing 2-4 with a pair of doubles with two RBIs. Harrison also finished with two hits and one RBI.

The Eagles will be back in action on February 27 when they travel to play Brantley.
