DAR honors good citizens

Charles Henderson High School senior Addyson Bryan was named the Oliver Wiley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizen of the Year at the chapter’s meeting this week.   

Each high school in the county was invited to nominate a member of the senior class who displays the qualities of a good citizen – dependability, service, patriotism and leadership.

Joining  Bryan for the honor were Sage Outlaw, Goshen High School; Anthony Glover, Jr., Pike County High School, and Lauren Johnson, Pike Liberal Arts School.

Mae Beth Gibson, chapter citizenship chair, said all four nominees are outstanding examples of good citizenship and have excelled academically as well.

Addyson was invited to read her essay, which focused on how the combined actions of good citizens keep America moving forward.

“To keep our country moving forward, our citizens must be respectful of the laws, be informed voters, be responsible for our actions and be protectors of our freedoms,” she said. “We must also be defenders of our Constitution.”

Addyson is the president of the CHHS Student Government Association and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the team captain of the varsity volleyball team and a member of the dance team. She also volunteers as a tutor and works as a receptionist at Troy Parks and Recreation.

Addyson plans a career in biomedicine or athletic training.

Lauren is pursuing an AISA advanced diploma at Pike Liberal Arts School where she is an honor student. She played basketball and volleyball for the Lady Patriots and is  member of the dance team. She is a member of the Spanish and drama clubs.

Lauren volunteers with Sav-A-Life and has assisted at Faulkner University’s basketball camp. She plans a career in interior design or art.

At Goshen High School, Sage is a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Student Government Association  and class president. She is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the dance team. She volunteers with the children’s program at her church and Pumpkins on the Square. She plans to attend Troy University’s School of Nursing.

Anthony is a member of the Business and Finance Academy at PCHS and will receive an associate degree from Enterprise State Community College along with a high school diploma. He is a member of the SGA, Upward Bound, the jazz  band and played football.

He volunteered with the Salvation Army and Turkeys from Heaven.

Anthony plans to attend the University of Alabama and pursue a degree in sports medicine or management.
