The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots picked up their first win of the season on Monday night when they defeated Lee Scott Academy 10-7 in Auburn. 

The Patriots found themselves down 6-2 in the fourth inning when they tallied seven runs to storm back and take the final lead of the game. 

The Patriots scored the game’s first run when Haleigh Dewberry laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Morgan Bundy, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead. 

Lee Scott quickly answered when they scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. 

Just like in the first inning, the Patriots were able to get a run on the board courtesy of an out. Sabra Daniels grounded out to allow Maddie Johnson to score the tying run and make the score 2-2. 

Lee Scott Gained a comfortable lead when they scored four runs in the fourth to go up 6-2 heading into the fifth. 

Once again the Patriots answered by scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. The Patriots sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning. Two walks by Johnson and Grice began the inning for the Patriots. Pike had three consecutive fielder’s choices by Callee Jinright, Bundy and Dewberry to score the first three runs of the inning. The Patriots had run-producing at bats by Danielle Brown, Maggie Phelps, Kayla Dendy, Grice and Daniels in the inning.

Lee Scott added a run in the bottom of the inning, and with the score 9-7 in the sixth, the Patriots scored their final run of the game when Grice drove in Dendy on a sacrifice fly.

Dewberry started the game for the Patriots and pitched the game’s first four innings and allowed 7 runs, six of them earned on five hits. Dannah Dawson pitched the game’s final three innings without surrendering a run on four hits.

The Patriots finished with eight hits led by Danielle Brown, who went 3-4 with one run batted in.

The Patriots will be back in action on February 16 when they travel to take on Abbeville beginning at 6 p.m.
