Bulldogs advance to finals

The Pike County Bulldogs claimed a spot in next week’s sub-regional tournament with a 56-42 win over Houston Academy in the Class 3A Area 4 Tournament on Thursday.

The Bulldogs advance to play in Friday night’s championship beginning at 6 p.m. and with a win could host the sub-regionals next week.

“It was a good team effort,” said Bulldogs head coach Doug Holland. “I was pleased with the way we attacked and shot the ball outside. We were very balanced tonight.” Five players got on the scoreboard in the opening quarter and the Bulldogs had a comfortable 20-6 lead going into the second. The Bulldogs were able to sustain the lead in the second quarter and went into halftime leading 31-15. Jahzarian Lampley led the way, scoring eight points.

The Bulldogs lost one quarter to Houston Academy and that came in the third. The Bulldogs managed to score five points and went into the fourth quarter leading by seven at 36-29.

The offense, led by Juhmir Lampley, got back on track when it mattered most in the fourth. Juhmir Lampley scored nine fourth quarter points and the Bulldogs were able to hold on and advance to the finals.

“It’s a very pleasing and rewarding feeling for the players, knowing how hard they worked to get to this point in the season,” Holland said.

The Bulldogs finished with three players in double figures, led by Juhmir Lampley who scored 15 points. Uri Rouse with 13 points and Jahzarian Lampley with 12.
