Zion Chapel head football and baseball coach Bubba Nall resigned from both coaching positions on Wednesday morning.

Coach Nall has been with Zion Chapel for three years.

“We have not received a letter, so it’s not official yet,” said principal Vohn Enloe. “There was about 100 people in the auditorium this morning and he did tell them he was stepping down. It was a family decision. Him and his wife talked about it and they thought it was the right time to move on.”

Coach Nall spent three years with the rebels and became head coach of the football program heading into the 2016 season.

“It has been a good three years, but at the end of the day, as a coach, you know when it’s your time to leave and me and my wife thought God was moving us in a different direction,” Nall said. “I am proud of what we accomplished at Zion Chapel.”

In his one year as head coach of the football program, Nall helped lead the Rebels to a 3-7 record– their best record since they went 4-6 in 2012.

“When I got there, we had 38 kids,” Nall said. “We had 78 play last year and had 83 sign up last Wednesday. We scored more points and gave up fewer points. The things that we did in a short amount of time we are proud of. I appreciate the kids and their parents who allowed me to coach them and I wish them nothing but the best.”

Nall wanted to resign on Wednesday to make sure that Principal Enloe and others had plenty of time to find a replacement to continue to lead the program.

“At the end of the day, as a football and baseball coach you have to do what you believe is right,” Nall said. “I resigned today so the principal has plenty of time to find a good man that would be a good fit.”

“We are grateful. He did an excellent job in the one year that he was the head coach,” Enloe said. “He turned the program around. It was a family decision and I told him I will support any decision that he makes.”

A search for the next baseball and football coach is underway, and the hope is a new baseball coach will be named on Friday.
