The boys led throughout the first half on Thursday evening.

Eric Williams connected on three three-pointers including two in the opening quarter. The Eagles carried a 11-6 lead into the second quarter, and after adding 12 second quarter points they took a 23-19 lead at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Bobcats. The Eagles were outscored in the quarter 15-10, giving the lead to Opp as the game made its way to the fourth quarter.

The defense for the Eagles clamped down in the fourth quarter, as the Bobcats managed to score just six fourth quarter points, allowing the Eagles to regain the lead and finish with a victory.

The Eagles had two players finish in double figures on Thursday. Mike Hollis and Eric Williams finished with a team high 12 points, while Iyan Hinkle scored seven and Zack Alford had six.

The Lady Eagles also picked up a win over the Bobcats on Thursday evening, but had to avoid a slow start to do so, according to head coach Fred Lowery.

“It was a slow game,” Lowery said. “We started out slow, but were able to turn it on more in the second half.”

Even with the win, Lowery would like to see the Eagles improve on the boards as well as limiting turnovers.

“We played ok, but we still need to do a better job of rebounding and protecting the ball,” Lowery said. “We had too many turnovers.”

Sophomore Bree Griffin led the way with 20 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and seven steals. Shayanne Tillery Tillery finished with 10 points and Jada Hall had eight.

With the win the Lady Eagles improve their record on the season to 7-4.

The Eagles will be back in action on January 13 when they open up area play at home against Luverne beginning with the Lady Eagles at approximately 6 p.m.
