After years of planning and hard work, the Enzor Road connector is finally open, opening up hundreds of acres for development and potentially relieving traffic on US-231.

The project also provides an alternate, more direct route to the Sportsplex by ex-tending George Wallace Drive and also extends Franklin Drive to the Oak Park subdivision.

The project was crucial in the recruitment of Publix, which in turn was crucial to the recruitment of other retail developments.

Mayor Jason Reeves expressed his excitement for the opening and his gratitude to those involved in helping to make it a reality.

“The fact that we’ve gotten to this point is tremendously rewarding for all those folks who have worked so hard to get to this point. It’s exciting,” Reeves said. “We always had the goal to have the roads open to traffic by December 31, and that took a lot of hard work.

“I certainly want to thank the past and present Troy City councils and all the city employees, the engineers, landowners, businesses and, most of all, the public, which has been patient through this entire ordeal and they’re paying for it. We forget they’re truly the ones making the most sacrifice for us to be able to grow and to prosper.

“I know it’s been tough on some of those established businesses there and I’m very grateful to them for their patience. I appreciate the fact that they weathered the storm with a lot of different traffic and other problems. I also want to thank the highway department, the contractors– there are just so many different people that helped make this happen.”

Reeves said that there are still a few minor things to do and that the roads will most likely get an official opening ceremony sometime in January. Reeves asks that residents remember to drive cautiously on the new roads as everyone is getting used to them, especially with the influx of holiday travel this time of year.
