The Goshen Eagles swim team hopes to continue to grow as a program after a successful season in 2016.

The Eagles swim team consists of just one swimmer in Bryce Tatum, but after putting together a successful season, head coach Shane Tatum thinks the future is bright.

“I believe it was a very productive season,” Shane Tatum said. “We are still a young team. Bryce was able to improve his times from last year and was able to qualify for sectionals.”

The Eagles finished the season in a sectional swim meet where Bryce Tatum finished in seventh place.  Bryce Tatum qualified in both the 200 and 100-yard freestyle.

“He went into the sectionals ranked third and he finished in seventh place,” Shane Tatum said. “It was a productive season for him.”

Bryce Tatum was the lone swimmer for the Eagles, but after his success this year and the impact of the sport in the Rio Olympics, coach Tatum is excited to see the sport grow.

“I think the recent Olympics have helped out with swimming,” coach Tatum said. “I think people are starting to recognize that there is not just football, baseball and basketball in the south. There are other sports kids can participate in.

“With Bryce’s success a lot more people at school has seen what he has done and maybe we will be able to build on that.”

As sophomore Bryce Tatum swam in five different meets and with two years of swimming remaining, the sky is the limit.

“The success we had this year is only going to grow,” coach Tatum said. “He still has two more years and I think he will build on what he did this year.”

The Eagles will begin their 2017 season on August 1, 2017.
