Troy mayor, Jason Reeves; Publix Media & Community Relations Manager, Dwaine Stevens; local Troy-Pike Habitat for Humanity president, Melissa Mikul: the Ashley Barron family, Ashley, Caitlin, Amber and Janice gather for a photo during the announcement that the Barron family will receive a Habitat for Humanity home.

For Ashley Barron, December 6, 2016, will be a day she will always remember.  “You have no idea what this means to me and my family,” Ashley said through tears.  “Thank you so, so much!”

After an extensive application process, Ashley and her family were selected as the next family to partner with Troy-Pike Habitat for Humanity.  They will join with community volunteers and build their new home after the first of the year.

Habitat will be able to begin constructing their house soon due to a large donation that will cover the construction costs of the home.  Dwaine Stevens, Publix Media & Community Relations Manager, presented a check from Publix Super Markets Charities for $60,000 to Troy-Pike Habitat for Humanity.  Once the Publix Supermarket opens in Troy in early 2017, Publix employees will volunteer to help build the home.  Mr. Stevens also presented the Barron family with a cutting board for their new home and stated that Publix will donate food worth $500 to “fill the kitchen once the home is complete.”
