The Goshen Lady Eagles were without one key player in Friday’s 48-38 loss to G.W. Long.

The Eagles (3-2) were without key scorer Shamiya Griffin, on Friday and the Rebels took advantage.

“That hurt bad,” said Eagles head coach Fred Lowery. “We played OK, we just couldn’t control the rebounds tonight. It was a back and forth game until the final minutes of the game.”

The Eagles hung with the Rebels in the first half and led heading into the second quarter 10-7. Bree Griffin scored 12 points in the first half, and the Eagles entered halftime with a 20-18 lead.

In the second half, lack of scoring hurt the Eagles. Other than Bre, Goshen had two other players in Cheyenne Tillery and Taylor Hughes get on the scoreboard.

“I have to have someone score other than Bree,” Lowery said. “Someone else is going to have to step up.  We missed some shots tonight. We missed layups and we didn’t rebound, they controlled the boards.”

The Rebels began making their move in the third quarter. They outscored the Eagles 16-8 and took a 34-28 lead into the game’s final quarter.

The Rebels again scored 16 points in the fourth quarter while the Eagles scored 10 to bring the final score to 48-38.

Even with the loss Lowery believes his team played well defensively.

“We played well,” Lowery said. “We wanted a few players to not hurt us and they didn’t. We played well. We just couldn’t control the boards.”

Griffin finished with a game high 30 points, while Tillery finished with six and Hughes had two.

The Eagles will be in action on Monday when they host Ariton.
