The Goshen Eagles once again rallied in the fourth quarter to beat G.W. Long 55-51 on Friday.

The Eagles have made a habit out of falling behind during the first three quarters of games before mounting a comeback in the game’s final quarter. On Friday night the Eagles followed that same script.

“We pulled it off,” said eagles head coach Ethan Carroll. “It’s the same process every time. Once again we were losing every quarter and came back and won in the fourth.”

The Eagles came out in the first quarter and forced turnovers and were able to gain the early advantage over the Rebels at 17-6. After failing to score over their next few possessions, the Rebels were able to claw their way back in the game after hitting back-to-back three-pointers.

“That gave them some confidence, and we got stagnant,” Carroll said.

The Eagles took the lead late in the fourth quarter, connecting on key free throws down the stretch.

“I think we got away with one,” Carroll said. “I think we are very fortunate and lucky considering that we missed quite a few free throws.”

The Eagles struggled against the zone defense. “We have been seeing nothing but zone since we started our season,” Carroll said. “That is not one our stronger suits right now, that is what we are trying to get better at. We just didn’t make any shots. We have to continue to get everything inside out.”

Zack Alford finished with 20 points in the win and Iyan Hinkle contributed with 12.

The Eagles will take the weekend off and get ready to take on Ariton and Pike County on Monday and Tuesday.

“There is no rest for the weary we have to get right back in it,” Carroll said. “Those are two great games for us to work on what we need to work on.”
