For the second time in as many months, Troy Elementary School will host a 3D Archery tournament, the Christmas Classic, inside the school’s gymnasium.

After holding their first in mid-November the excitement and high participation convinced physical education teacher Forrest Lee to have another one.

“It was such a hit the first time,” Lee said. “This gives the kids an ongoing taste of it before heading into the regional tournament in February. We have invited the team’s from Goshen and Banks to come and shoot in this tournament as well.”

The goal for coach Lee and Troy Elementary is to continue to promote the sport of archery in the Pike County community.

The tournament will consist of four different divisions: fourth and fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, ninth through 12th grade and an open adult division.

Flight times for the tournament will be at 3:15, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. Scores will be posted after each round and the trophy presentation will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Participants will have one shot shot at each of the nine targets with a maximum score of 108 points. The 3D targets will be of a squirrel, goat, bear, coyote, deer, bobcat, pronghorn antelope, stone sheep and turkey.

All participants of the tournament must have had instruction or knowledge of the use of safety of archery. Participants must also use the provided NASP bows.

There will be an entry fee of $5, which will all go towards the Troy archery program.

“The upkeep of the equipment is number one,” Lee said. “By having a fundraiser, it helps us to continue to improve our equipment and to keep up all the excitement.”

Troy will also be the host school for the regional archery tournament in February at the Troy Recreation Center.
