The Charles Henderson Middle School (CHMS) concert choir will hold its second Christmas concert today, this time joined by the Charles Henderson High School (CHHS) concert choir as well.

“It will be fun,” said choir director Calvin Scott.

“We want to open it up to the community and get them to come out. We’ve been preparing for this concert since about mid-October, practicing every day during school and having rehearsal one to two days each week.”

Many of Scott’s middle school students return from last year, both in the middle school choir and the new high school choir, but there are also many fresh faces as well.

Scott said that the newcomers feel excited but also nervous to participate in their first full choir performance.

“They’re nervous, of course, performing on stage for basically the first time,” Scott said. “We performed for Veterans Day, but this is their first concert.”

The two choirs are made up by a total of nearly 80 students that will be performing Christmas songs during the performance, which will begin at 6 p.m. tonight and last about an hour.

Scott also collaborated with Spanish teacher Karla Johnson to include some Spanish songs in the concert mix. The concert will be held in the CHHS cafeteria.

Scott said the he hopes there’s a good turnout despite the concert being held on a Wednesday night, competing with church services.

“We know it’s a Wednesday night and people have church, but this is the only night we could really do it,” Scott said.  “With students involved in sports and other things, this was really the only ay that was possible. Hopefully we will be out early enough for people to get to church afterward. We hope everyone will really take the opportunity to come.”
