Mrs. Mary Coskrey Simpson, age 99 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016.

Mrs. Simpson was born, March 7, 1917, in Troy, Alabama to Homer and Lulu Coskrey.  She graduated as the Valedictorian from her high school, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Troy State University. She also had a Master’s Degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA and a teaching certification from Peabody College in Nashville, TN.  In 1956, she married John William Simpson from Greeneville, TN, and had two children, John William and Elizabeth Jane.  Mrs. Simpson taught primary and secondary grades in schools in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, but spent the majority of her career teaching second-grade children at Benning Hills Elementary School in Columbus, GA.  Since her retirement from the Muscogee County School District, she has lived in Columbus, Georgia; Surprise, Arizona; and Carrollton, Georgia.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Simpson and Richard Turnbull of Carrollton, Georgia; her son and her daughter-in-law John W. and Elena Simpson of Glendale, Arizona; her two grandchildren John William III and Stephanie Lynn; and a great-grandson, Sean, all of Glendale, Arizona.  She is predeceased by her husband, John William Simpson; her brother, Homer S. Coskrey of Starkville, MS; and her sister Carolyn Little of Troy, AL.

Funeral service will be Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11 a.m.(EST) at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Chapel, Carrollton, Georgia, with Rev. Stephen Allen officiating. The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church Chapel on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy, Alabama, Thursday, December 8 at 2:30 p.m.(CST)
