Christmas is coming but not before Ole Time Christmas arrives at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama in Troy.

The annual Ole Time Christmas event will be from 6 until 8:30 p.m.  Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10 at the pioneer museum. Everyone is invited to step back in time and experience Christmas the way it was during Pike County’s pioneer days.

Kelly Ormond, program and education director at the museum, said a full night of activities has been planned for people of all ages.

“All of the cabins have been decorated and lit for Christmas in the old-fashioned way,” Ormond said. “Visitors to Ole Time Christmas will be served hot chocolate from the wood stove in the Demonstration Cabin and kids of all ages will be invited to roast marshmallows over the open fire.”

Hot apple cider will be served in other cabins where there will be opportunities to participate in a variety of Christmas activities.

The Rev. Ed Shirley will lead the singing of Christmas carols in the log church and visitors will want to spend time at the church and bask in the atmosphere of an old-fashioned Christmas song service.

“All visitors to Ole Time Christmas will want to take a few minutes to sit and listen to a special Christmas story being read in one of the cabins,” Ormond said. “And a special visitor from the North Pole is expected to stop by for a visit. The Jolly Ol’ Elf will want to know what each child wants for Christmas. He will also want to have his picture taken with the good little boys and girls for them to take home.”

The museum gift shop features unique gift items for all ages. Museum memberships make great Christmas gifts. The gift shop will be open throughout Ole Time Christmas.

All of the paths around the museum will be candlelit so everyone can enjoy strolling the grounds.

“Ole Time Christmas” is a wonderful way to spend an evening in the atmosphere of yesteryear, Ormond said.

“Everyone is invited to join us for this special Christmas event.”

Admission to Ole Time Christmas is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for students. Children ages five and under are admitted free. Museum members are also admitted free.

Those who bring a canned item for a local food pantry will get a dollar off the admission price. One can per person.
