With the new year right around the corner, the Troy Parks and Recreation Department is set to begin registration for the 2016 baseball, softball and Miracle League seasons.
Online registration is underway and continues through Jan. 9, 2016. The two-day in-house registration will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 8 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Jan. 9.
“We hope every kid has a good time,” said Assistant Director and Youth Sports Coordinator David Dickey. “We try to put out a good product for these kids to enjoy. We want these kids to learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball and to also make new friends.”
Along with baseball and softball registration the Miracle League will also begin in-house registration on Jan. 8. The Miracle League offers children from ages five and up with mental and/or physical disabilities the opportunity to play baseball on a custom accessible field at the Sportsplex.
“We try to offer the same opportunity for kids with disabilities and have them experience what it feels like to play the game of baseball,” Dickey said. “They have heroes and people they look up to. This is an opportunity for them to put a uniform on and get out there and play the game just like everybody else.”
Registration is for boys and girls ages five through 15 and five through unlimited for the Miracle League.
The fee will be $30 for a single child, $55 for two children and $80 for three or more with the discount only applying for children who live in the same household.
Although the exact date has yet to be announced, all three seasons will get under way sometime in mid-March.
“We just want people to come out here and have a good time playing baseball and softball,” Dickey said. “Hopefully they will come back with a good experience.”
