For most people, the mere mention of Valentine’s Day conjures up thoughts of chocolate candy, flowers and heart-shaped greeting cards.

Pike County glass artist Charles Adams has decided to turn those thoughts into something tangible as a way of saying “Happy Valentine’s Day” to friends and neighbors.

“Back years ago, we had Valentine’s Day parties here at the glass studio and invited everyone to stop by for punch and cookies,” Adams said.

“We’d have a good time sharing stories, mainly of courtships with a few happy marriage stories thrown in. People like to hear stories of how couples met and fell in love.”

The coziness of the Adams Glass Studio was an ideal place to share those memories. The annual Valentine’s Day parties were highly anticipated events.

But, when Adams was invited to participate in an annual art show in Florida around Valentine’s Day, the party was over for several years.

Then one cold, windy day in Florida, Adams decided he would rather winter with his feet stretched out to the fire at home than deal with Mother Nature in the hinterlands of the “Sunshine” state.

So, back home with his feet to the fire, Adams had the idea of bringing back the Valentine Party.

“We got started back with the Valentine Party about two years ago, and we enjoyed having people stop by,” he said.

“They seemed to enjoy it just as much. To add something extra to the Valentine Party, last year we gave a prize to the couple that had been married the longest. This year, we’re going to do something different.”

The 2015 Valentine Party at Adams Glass Studio on Highway 231 south of Troy will be from 1 until 4 p.m. on Feb. 8, and everybody is invited to stop by for teacakes and coffee and to register for three prizes of Valentine persuasion to be given in a drawing on Valentine’s Day.

“Everybody that comes to the party or stops by to register will have their names in the drawings,” Adams said and added laughing that only those who come to the Valentine’s Day Party on Sunday will get teacakes and coffee.

“The three prizes will be a box on homemade chocolate candy and two stained glass sun catchers, one with a rose and the other with a heart.”

Adams said he and his family are sending an open invitation for everyone to come to the Valentine’s Day Party on Sunday afternoon and spend time with friends and neighbors.

“We don’t usually get together without a reason except to just enjoy getting together,” Adams said. “The Valentine’s Day Party is a way to get together.”
