Pike County Circuit Court Judge Shannon Clark sentenced a man indicted for eight sex offenses involving a child to life in prison plus 10 years this week.

Earlier this month, Terry Cordell Davie, 46, of Goshen, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree assault of a minor including rape. The plea was part of a blind agreement. The district attorney’s office agreed to dismiss six counts in exchange for Davie’s guilty plea in the other two. All eight of the counts involved the same victim.

“This is a just sentence considering the impact and harm he had on the victim’s life,” said Jon M. Folmar, the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case.

Davie made a blind plea, which meant he would forgo a jury trial and be sentenced by a judge. When he entered the plea, Davie provided details of the incident that confirmed his guilt.

Clark sentenced Davie to the maximum sentence the charges would allow. One of the charges was a class A felony with a sentence that could range anywhere from 10 years to 99 years, the other a class C felony that could add one to 10 years to his sentence. The plea expedited the case and spared the need for the victim to testify in front of a jury. Because just one felony could give him life in prison, dismissing the other charges in his indictment did not affect his punishment.
