Charles Henderson girls roll past Headland to give coach Dyneisha Jones a big present
Charles Henderson girls basketball head coach Dyneisha Jones isn’t telling anyone her age, but did say she got everything she wanted for her birthday Tuesday afternoon.
Jones’ wish list was simple, in fact she only asked for one present: a win over Headland.
The Lady Trojans gave it to her with a dominat 44-10 win Tuesaday night at Betty Wagoner Hall in Troy.
“All I ask for now is good health and wins,” said Jones. “The girls played great tonight, and anytime you get an area win, it’s good. They gave me a great present.”
Charles Henderson controlled the game from the opening tip to the final horn, and relied, on what Jones called, “relentless” defense to pick up a key area win over the Lady Rams.
The Lady Trojans allowed just six in the first half, and didn’t give up a single bucket in the third quarter.
“We want our girls to play good defense and that sure did that tonight,” Jones said. “We give out stickers when they hold a team to less than 30 points, so we met that by far. We hustled, played smart and recognized what the team was doing and made adjustments. I loved the way they played defense tonight.”
On offense, the Lady Trojans were led by Alexis Jones with 15 points. Tysherria Kyles added eight points.
Jones said the Trojans still have some work to do offensively.
“We will keep working on our offensive sets,” Jones said. “I like the improvement we have had, but we want to be better. One the area tournament and playoffs come around, you need to be hitting on all cylinders.”
Boys: Headland 49, Charles Henderson 47
The Charles Henderson Trojans clawed back from 13 points down in the second half, and had a chance to win it late but couldn’t get a bucket to fall.
The Trojans had a pair of decent looks inside the final 10 seconds, but neither found the bottom of the net, handing the Trojans an area loss to the Headland Rams.
