Troy man arrested after car, foot chase
What could have been a simple traffic stop ended in a car taking a nose dive from a hill into an apartment complex’s parking lot and the driver’s arrest.
Troy Police officers attempted to pull over Cedrick Lamar Poole, 30, of Troy, just before 11 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Troy Police reports. Officers had noticed the 1991 Mercury Cougar that Poole was driving had a license plate that didn’t match the car.
It appeared at first as if Poole was going to comply with officers and stop the vehicle, but then he tried to elude police by zig-zagging down several streets and through a construction zone on Elm Street before turning onto Park Street.
Poole’s car left the road and ran up into a grassy area of Skyview Apartments. He bailed out of the car as it narrowly missed trees, plowed through a fence and came to rest after plunging off a hill beside the parking lot.
According to police, Poole swung at and struck the head of one of the officers pursuing him. He fled on foot across Park Street and into a field where he was taken into custody by TPD officers.
Poole has been charged with second-degree assault (aggravated assault on a police officer, strong-arm), switched tag, attempting to elude a police officer, reckless endangerment and driving without first obtaining a license.
The second-degree assault is a felony and Poole’s bond is set at $25,000 in that case. For attempting to elude police, Poole’s bond is $500 and the reckless endangerment bond is $750.
Poole received tickets for the switched tag and driving without first obtaining a license. He also had two outstanding warrants for domestic violence and contempt of court.
