Troy Health & Rehab crowns new pageant winner

Bertha McLendon was crowned Ms. Troy Health & Rehabilitation 2012 at the annual pageant on Tuesday night. Mrs. McLendon will represent TH&R at local events and activities throughout the year and be eligible to participate in the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home pageant July 23 in Birmingham.

Ms. Troy Health & Rehabilitation 2011 Ruby Turner ceremoniously passed the scepter to McLendon and wished her the same wonderful experience that she enjoyed during her reign.

The reigning Ms. Troy Health & Rehab said she will wear the crown proudly. She now has three crowns, one as TH&R Ms. Congeniality 2011 and the other as TH&R Valentine Queen also in 2011.

“I have three girls and now I have three crowns, one for each of them,” she said.

Ms. McLendon is a native of Pike County. She enjoys all of the activities at TH&R and said she has made many new friends at the facility and enjoys having visitors.

Myla Holmes was crowned Ms. Congeniality. Holmes has been a resident of TH&R for two years and said she enjoys being with all the friends that she has made there.

“I like playing Bingo and all the other games and especially church,” she said.

Elise Lindsey, a native of Pike County, was first runner up to Ms. TH&R. She had advice for those who want to know the best way to live their lives.

“If you love everyone you will get along,” the one-year resident said.

Linda Schultz, a three-year resident of TH&R, was second runner up. She is a native of Russell County and has a son and two grandchildren that make her life a joy.

Third runner up was Misty Shempert. The Pike County native has been a resident of TH&R for 11years. She enjoys spending time with the staff and visiting other residents in their rooms.

Mildred Manning was a member of the Honor Court. She is also a Pike County native. She enjoys the games and activities along with her friends.

Jeanette Dawkins, activities director, said the Ms. Troy Health & Rehabilitation Pageant is a highlight of the early year for the facility’s residents.

“Those who participate really enjoy getting all dressed up and being in the spotlight,” Dawkins said. “It’s a special time for each of them. Our staff has worked really hard to make this night special for our contestants and their families. It’s also a special time for our other residents who attend the pageant.”

Dawkins congratulated McLendon on winning the title and all the contestants for a job well done.

“Ms. McLendon will represent us well and we look forward to her reign as Ms. Troy Health & Rehab,” Dawkins said. “This was a special night and we thank everyone who was a part of it making the pageant such a great success.
