The recent detours on Park and Elm streets will be a thing of the past by Friday evening.

Troy’s water line project, funded by Community Development Block Grant money, will finish up with milling and paving work along roads affected by the project.

Areas from Brundidge Street down Center Street, left down Park Street and across Madison Street to Elm Street and right to George Wallace Drive will all be resurfaced.

“We waited and scheduled to do this during spring break,” said Mike Davis, the city’s water and sewer superintendent. “Crews will be finished and out of here on Friday.”

Friday is also a notable date for the Brundidge Street resurfacing and widening project, Davis said. The detour signs at Brundidge Street and University Avenue will be moved to Brundidge and Center streets by the end of the day Friday.

Davis said the slight delay in roadwork near University Avenue was due to heavy rain the last few weeks.

“We can’t complain about rain, but it does tend to slow some things down,” Davis said.

The area where the water line project affected Brundidge Street will not be resurfaced until the entire length of the street is resurfaced.

When the widening and resurfacing project is completed, the portion of Brundidge Street between Blackmon Street and University Avenue will be widened to include a “suicide lane” and sidewalks. Then, the entire street from U.S. Hwy 231 to Elm Street will be milled and resurfaced.

Funding for the widening and resurfacing project is from the Alabama Department of Transportation, Davis said.
