The Easter Parade may be a thing of the past for many communities, but not Brundidge.

Ladies all around town and beyond are decorating their bonnets in readiness for the annual Easter Bonnet Parade Friday morning.

The Easter Bonnet Parade is an annual event sponsored by First National Bank and is held to carry on a fading tradition, said Bonnie Dansby, spokesperson for the event.

“Easter is time of celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” she said. “And, there are traditions that surround the Easter season and the wearing of bonnets is among them. The Easter Bonnet Parade is a way to bring the community together and a way to hold on to tradition.”

The Easter Bonnet Parade will begin at First National Bank at 8 a.m. Friday and make its way up Main Street to the Methodist church, across the street and back down Main Street to the bank.

“We invite women, men and children to put on a bonnet or hat and join the fun,” Dansby said. “Those who don’t get up that early are invited to stop by the bank during the day and we will take a photograph of them wearing their hats. At 4 o’clock, a panel of anonymous judges will choose a winner of the Easter Bonnet Parade.”

The bank will serve light refreshments during the afternoon hours and everybody is invited to visit the bank and enjoy the fun and fellowship of the Easter Bonnet Parade event.
