There is good news for people tired of navigating potholes on South Brundidge Street in Troy.

Mayor Jimmy Lunsford said he spoke with AT&T officials on Monday and the company will begin work again now that they have received a shipment of cable that had been in short supply.

“We’ve had a shortage of these large cables because we used everything we had to rebuild after the tornados in Alabama,” said Sue Sperry, spokesperson for AT&T Alabama.

“It came in today and they assured me they will give South Brundidge Street their highest priority,” Lunsford said. “They will come in and begin work, and work straight through until they finish.”

Sperry said AT&T would be upgrading the cables in Troy and finishing the line move by the company’s original commitment date to the city – March 15.

“We’ve made this a really high priority,” Sperry said. “We are going to proceed and try to better that date.”

The city and other companies have been finished with their portions of the utility move since at least Jan 9. The project kicked off in June with the replacement of a 12-inch water main and will end with the widening of a portion of the street and a resurfacing of the road between U.S. Hwy 231 and City Hall.

“I feel much better with an explanation that the cable was in short supply,” Lunsford said. “I feel that we are about to be back on track.”
