The Pike County Heart Walk board didn’t set a goal for the 2012 fundraising campaign.

“We believe that people will give as they can and we know the generosity of the people of Pike County,” said Annette Toney, Heart Walk board chair. “We know the campaign will be successful.”

The culminating event of the Pike County Heart Walk campaign will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cattleman Park and the public is invited.

“The Heart Walk path will be lined with hearts that are in honor of heart disease and stroke survivors and in memory of those who lost their lives to heart disease,” Toney said. “The Heart Walk is a celebration of the many lives that have been saved through research and education and by the skilled hands of physicians and nurses. The Heart Walk will be a happy occasion.”

Toney said the 2012 Heart Walk promises to be the biggest ever.

“Participation has been great this year,” she said. “We sold 600 ‘Go Red!’ T-shirts and that means that more people are getting involved. The board cannot thank the community enough for its support of our ‘Go Red!’ campaign. Not only does the campaign raise funds for the fight against heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in America, the T-shirts also help raise awareness of heart disease.”

The 2012 Pike County Heart Walk will have non-stop entertainment beginning with the National Anthem and the Survivors’ Song sung by ShaLyric Golay. A puppet show, under the direction of Michael O’Hara, will be featured entertainment along with SheBANG! Championship Clogging Company. The cloggers will present the program they performed at the Sugar Bowl.

“We’ll have a kids’ corner and a group of Troy University students, that possibly will include several football players, will assist the children with those activities,” Toney said. “We’ll also be giving free blood pressure checks and information related to heart disease and stroke will be available.”

Toney expressed appreciation to the members of the Pike County Heart Walk board for their dedication to the cause and the time and effort they have devoted to this year’s campaign.

“The Heart Walk is sponsored by the board and every member has worked extremely hard to make this year’s campaign a success,” Toney said. “We invite everyone to come out Thursday night and join us in a time of celebration and rededication to the cause.

“The Heart Walk is a family event and we have free food for all supporters of the campaign. So, you can come right after work and be a part of the 2012 Pike County Heart Walk.”
