Troy’s football program will receive national recognition thanks to the success of a trio of former players. Not only with the players themselves be on national television playing in the biggest sporting event in the world, The New York Times will visit Troy on Friday to talk with coaches about the recent success of some former Trojans.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora, wide receiver and return man and kicker Lawrence Tynes, all members of the New York Giants, will face off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI on Jan. 30 in Indianapolis.

Sports Information Director Adam Prendergast said he received the call Wednesday morning and was excited about the exposure that the program will receive.

Head coach Larry Blakeney said he was proud of his former players and that the exposure is well-deserved.

“Those guys understood how to work when they were here,” Blakeney said. “I’m proud of what they’ve done and how far they’ve gone.”

The New York Times was founded in 1851 and has a daily circulation of over 1.15 million. It also has a news department staff of 1,150.
