CHHS defeats Northview in waning moments

Charles Henderson and Northview boys resumed a game that began on Saturday but was postponed due to floor conditions. The Trojans jumped out early, lost the lead but fought back in the waning moments for a 48 – 45 win over the 6A Cougars.

The game resumed with 5:16 remaining in the first quarter and tied at 2-2. DeQuante Shockley got CHHS started well with a basket and a three-point play with Davante Jackson scoring on a putback to end the quarter and an 11 – 2 Trojan lead.

The second quarter saw the visiting Cougars get on track offensively to cut the lead to 13 – 8 at one point. A Brandon Gosha putback followed by a basket by Robert Lee stretched the lead back out to 17 – 8 and the Trojans maintained a 26 – 16 halftime lead courtesy of six points late in the period by Tyler Mitchell.

Northview came out firing in the second half, hitting three three-point shots to cut the lead to 1 at 26 – 25. A Jackson steal and lay-in got CHHS back up to 28 – 25 , and consecutive baskets by Mitchell got the lead back out to 34 – 27 late in the third. The three-point baskets kept falling for the guests however and the third quarter lead was only two at 37 – 35.

The fourth quarter saw the run continue for Northview as CHHS fell behind by a count of 43 – 37 halfway through the period. Mitchell, Shockley and Jackson led a fierce charge back for the Trojans as they outscored NHS on an 11 – 2 run to close out the game. Jackson had the go-ahead basket at 46 – 45 with Shockley adding some insurance with under 15 seconds remaining.

Mitchell led Charles Henderson with 17 points followed by Shockley with 11 and Jackson with 10.
