Local lawmen busted a proprietor of a shot house Thursday night for illegally-selling alcohol.

Charles Williams, of 151 W. Pike St., was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol for sale without a license. He is being held in the Pike County Jail.

Sheriff Russell Thomas said a search warrant was served at the location of the makeshift club about 6 p.m. as a joint-effort by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, the Troy Police Department, the state Alcohol Beverage Control Board and the Department of Corrections K-9 team.

“Entry into the location was made without incident,” Thomas said, adding that this was not Williams’ first run-in with police in relation to illegal alcohol sales.

Sgt. Benny Scarbrough with the Troy Police Department said officers in Troy had dealt with similar issues when Williams was associated with the Obama Club on North Three Notch Street.

Lawmen confiscated 147 12-ounce beers and five bottles of liquor, according to Thomas. The house, located at 6043 Highway 87 in the Spring Hill community, was hosting 10 to 12 people at the time of the bust.

“It was a house that was set up to sell snacks, candy, chips, chicken plates and beer and alcohol,” Thomas explained. “There was even a pool table there, but he had no license to sell alcohol.”

Two others at the shot house were arrested for outstanding warrants with the Troy Police Department and a case is pending for a person who was in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

According to Scarbrough, Gerald M. Reynolds, 24, originally charged with third-degree assault and Kelvin Reynolds, 36, originally charged with giving a false name to a police officer were the two men arrested.

“I appreciate the help of the Troy Police Department, the ABC board and everyone else involved in making this case and shutting down this illegal operation,” Thomas said.
