In a slow paced, turnover filled game Charles Henderson came away victorious I the winner’s bracket consolation game of the Ozark Shootout with a 29-22 decision over Pike County on Friday.

The Trojans dropped to the consolation game after a 40-38 loss to Luverne on Thursday. Charles Henderson (8-7) defeated Brantley in the opening round. Pike County fell to Loveless, 51-29, to earn their spot in the game. The Bulldogs knocked off Carroll in the first round.

Pike County (1-14) was shutout in the opening quarter as the Trojans opened a 10-0 lead thanks to four Bulldog turnovers. It was Charles Henderson who acquired the cold shooting hand in the second frame, making just one field goal. Pike County’s Marlon Meadows got the Bulldogs on the board with a pair of free throws before making good on a 10-foot jump shot. Pike County outscored the Trojans 10-6 in the quarter.

“I was proud of the defense we played,” said Pike County head coach Doug Branson. “We didn’t shoot the ball well but we hustled and hung in there.”

Pike County would pull to within one on a free throw by Landis Mency with 6:29 left in the third quarter. Rod Roberson hit a three-pointer at the 1:50 mark to extend the Charles Henderson lead to five, 20-15.

Trailing 25-18, the Bulldogs would once again cut the lead to consecutive lay-ups by Meadows and DeAndre Moore.

Tyler Mitchell would sink four of six free throws down the stretch to lock up the win for the Trojans.

Moore and Kamari Jackson were name to the All-Tournament team for Pike County. Mitchell and Devante Jordan garnered honors for Charles Henderson.

The Trojans will next play Carroll High School to open area play Jan. 3 at home.

Pike County will take on Opp on Jan. 6 on the road.
