Just as guaranteed, it snowed at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama Friday. And, if the weatherman is right, it will snow again tonight.

The snow was just part of the fun of Ole Time Christmas at the museum. The weekend event attracted a large crowd of the young and the young at heart Friday night and offers the same holiday entertainment tonight.

Rachael Greve, museum director, said the cool, crisp night along with the seasonal music that filled the air Friday night, set the perfect atmosphere for an Ole Time Christmas celebration.

Calvin Bodiford and the Southern Strings played Christmas carols on traditional instruments at the Reunion Cabin while Chuck Arney played the bagpipe in the moonlight.

“This is a great Christmas event,” Arney said. “I play at several seasonal gatherings and I always enjoy the spirit of these events.”

Ole Time Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without cider and teacakes and other holiday treats.

Whiffs of steaming hot chocolate drifted from the Reunion Cabin and drew visitors to the cabin where Alma Bodiford was brewing the popular holiday treat. And, across the museum grounds, Agnes Johnson was stirring a pot of hot tea and serving teacakes and roasted nuts.

“We’ve had a good crowd and the children and adults have enjoyed roasting marshmallows,” Johnson said. “Ole Time Christmas is a great way to celebrate the season. There’s nothing more special than a simple Christmas celebration.”

The museum’s Bradleyton Depot was the stopover place for those who wanted to watch the classic film highlighting the grand North Pole adventure of a little boy, a mighty steam engine and one very magical sleigh bell.

And, Old Father Christmas was at the museum to hear the Christmas wishes of boys and girls.

The Hearth & Homestead Gift Shop is always a favorite gathering place and features many one-of-a-kind items that will make great stocking stuffers or presents for the tree.

All of Friday night’s activities and events will be back on track from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. Admission is free and everyone is invited to celebrate the Christmas season the old fashioned way with family, friends and neighbors.

“Ole Time Christmas is the Pioneer Museum of Alabama’s gift to the community,” Greve said. “We hope everyone will come out tonight and share this special time with us.”
