Four deceased Pike County veterans will be honored at the Veterans Day program at Bicentennial Park in Troy at 10 a.m. on Friday. The memorial service will be conducted prior to the Veterans Day program.

Katie Hale, president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 in Troy, said three names will be added to the Veterans Memorial Wall and four American flags will be posted in the Avenue of Flags.

“We will add the names, Homer Leon Snead, Sr., a veteran of the Korean War; Randall Grissette, a veteran of Iraqi Freedom; and Rassie A. Godwin, a veteran of World War II to the memorial wall,” Hale said. “We will also read the name of Henry “Hank” LaFountaine but his name was not submitted in time to get the memorial name plaque for the 11/11/11 memorial service.”

Hale said all four veterans served in the United States Army.

“We are honoring the memory of these veterans and invite all family members and friends to share this special time with us,” Hale said.

The Veterans Memorial Wall and the Avenue of Flags are projects of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 and are an ongoing project.

The name of any deceased Pike County veteran or one who has Pike County connections may be added to the wall and to the Avenue of Flags.

“The fee for adding a name to the Memorial Wall is $125 and that is subject to change as the cost of the plaque increases,” Hale said. “The company that makes the plaques won’t make one or two so we have to order several at one time. From now on, we will only place orders twice a year. Our next order will be placed March 31, 2012 and the next one will be September 30, 2012. Those who want to have their loved one’s name added to the Memorial Wall should get the information and fee to us at least eight weeks before we place the orders.”

The memorial flags are $25 and that cost should remain the same. The flags may be purchased at any time.
