Lessie Thomas

Lessie Viola Thomas, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Services will be held November 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Carroll Street Cemetery under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home.

She was born in Pike County, Alabama on March 2, 1930 to the late Noah Nichols and Annie Laura Collier Nichols. Lessie was a faithful member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully and actively as a member of the Usher Board. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Annie Laura Nichols; grandson, Reginald Byrd Thomas; a host of devoted cousins and friends, Pinkie Lee Williams, Mary Jane Stringer, Mary Emma Bryant, A.W. Woods, M.G. Woods, Willie Frank Alloway, Mattie Clyde Berry, Emma Lee Scott, L.K. Hicks, James Hicks, and L.J. Hicks; four loving aunts, Exie Johnson, Mae Clara Collier, Sally Mae Davis, and Myrtle Ruth Hendricks; and four uncles, Corrie C. Byrd, Sr., Fred Dixon, J.D. Dixon, and Robert Byrd.

Lessie leaves to cherish her memories one devoted son, Wille Clarence Thomas, Jr; a loving daughter-in-law, Patricia Byrd Thomas; two adorable great grandsons, Damari Regai Thomas and Ayden Sayeed Thomas; two Goddaughters, Carry Durham (Michael) and Gloria Debose (Montgomery, Al); three great-Godchildren, Amyia and Antonio Durham and Jaxson Debose; one aunt, Ola Thomas; supportive cousins and friends, Dorothy Hicks, Albert Hicks, Charles Townsend, Charlie D. Hendricks, Patsy Reynolds, Bronella Williams and Honey Ginyard; a special friend, Carla Roberson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

PallBearers will be Earnest M. Mohammad, Lonnie Richardson, James Davis, Henry Williams, Richard Alloway, Charles Townsend, Willie Scott and Milton Scott. Floralbearers will be the Ushers of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
