The former director of a local children’s advocacy center facing charges of identity theft was charged with two additional felonies on Oct. 14.

Ramona Watson, 57, of Troy, was arrested July 14 on two charges of felony identity theft, stemming from illegal use of credit cards issued in the name of the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center and a center employee.

On Oct. 14, Watson turned herself in to answer to two additional felony identity theft charges.

“These were alleged to have occurred on or around July 7,” said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, public relations officers for the Troy Police. “These are additional charges not related to the Child Advocacy Center.”

The charges involve credit card abuse and personal business transactions, Scarbrough said. Police declined to provide any more information about the victim or the incidents.

“Our investment continues into this case,” Scarbrough said. “It’s a separate issue than the Child Advocacy Center … it’s a separate crime.”

Watson resigned May 13 from the Child Advocacy Center, where she had been director since its inception. In July, Dr. Mark Bazzell, president of the CAC board of directors, said CAC officials had become aware of irregularities involving the corporate credit card in May. A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a second credit card, with a balance of more than $19,500, opened in the CAC’s name with a board member and another employee listed as cardholders, he said.

Bond was set at $2,500 each on all charges and Watson was free on bond as of Tuesday.
