Veteran director Bill Hazen returns to direct the 19th season of Alabama’s Official Folklife Play, “Come Home, It’s Suppertime,” at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge.

Hazen, of Troy, has directed several seasons of the award-winning folklife play and said he is excited to return to community theater.

“It’s always great to be involved with people who do community because it is a labor of love,” Hazen said. “It’s an opportunity to do something you enjoy while giving back to the community.”

Lawrence Bowden, president of the sponsoring Brundidge Historical Society, said “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” has a great and dedicated cast of storytellers, musicians and crew members.

“We don’t consider ourselves actors because we’re not,” Bowden said. “We are storytellers who tell the story of life in the rural South back during the Great Depression. The stories are all true as told by those who lived Hard Times. We tell their stories, hopefully, in an entertaining and meaningful way.”

“Come Home, It’s Suppertime” received the 2008 Governor’s Tourism Award, which Bowden said, was quite an honor for a small town.

“We were very appreciative and hope that those who come leave believing our folklife play was deserving of the recognition,” he said.

The fall production has a several new cast members and a few new “wrinkles” that those who have been “home at suppertime” will recognize.

“We are looking forward to another season and to welcoming old friends and new ones home at suppertime,” Bowden said.

Tickets are on now on sale for the fall production of “Come Home, It’s Suppertime.”

The price remains the same at $25 each and includes the pre-show music, a full country, family-style supper and the two-act original folklife play.

Play dates are Nov. 1, 3, 4 & 5 and 10, 11 & 12.
