Running games to be on display as Trojans face Rehobeth

It may not be electrifying or record breaking but Charles Henderson’s offense gets the job done.

Thus far in 2011, the Trojans are averaging 28 points per contest but are almost a full touchdown better against region opponents averaging 34.

CHHS currently boasts a 3-3 record, 3-1 within their region, but considering the stiff competition 3-3 is something to be proud of.

The Trojans three losses, coming to Beauregard, Valley, and Greenville, were tough pills to swallow considering two of the three were decided in the final minute and Charles Henderson had the ball first-and-goal at the 1-yard line against Beauregard and failed to score (the game ended 21-14).

The combined record of the three teams to defeat CHHS … 16-2.

Valley (5-1) is ranked 10th in Class 5A while Beauregard (6-0) holds down the eighth spot on Class 4A. Greenville (5-1) is just out of the loop but did receive four votes in the most recent poll.

With the toughest part of the schedule behind them (the combined record of their upcoming opponents is 11-13), the Trojans have put themselves in good position in the region standings.

Currently in a tie for second in Class 5A Region 2, Charles Henderson is on a crash course for a battle for a first round home playoff game when they face Eufaula, who is also 3-1 in region play, on Oct. 21.

The Trojans, obviously, must take care of Rehobeth and Carroll first but the teams have a combined four wins this season and Charles Henderson has a combined all-time record of 42-19-2 against the pair.

The last time CHHS lost to Rehobeth was 1978 which, incidentally, was the first ever meeting in the series.

The Trojans will carry their running back duo of Courtney Downing and Stanley Crawford into tonight’s game but will have a talented back on the other side they will need to contain.

Rehobeth’s Corey Perkins rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns in the Rebels win last week over Booker T. Washington.
