Charles Henderson finished off their regular season in style Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep on Carroll High School.

The Trojans look now to gain a berth in the regional tournament by finishing first or second at the area tournament next week in Rehobeth.

In the Carroll match, the Trojans solid passing and sets to dominate the Eagles.

Becca Hartley lead the way with six aces and a kill.

Not far behind way Olivia Hudson with 11 kills and two aces.

Elizabeth Owens chipped in with seven kills while Melissa Kennedy and Victoria Outlaw had five kills and one ace each.

“We started out good but got a little sloppy in the third game,” head coach Jennifer Sikes said. “But I feel good about this team heading into the area tournament.”

Just competing in the area tournament is not enough for this squad they have their sights set a little higher.

“Our goal is to host the regional tournament,” said junior setter Becca Hartley. “I think this team can do it.”

At 9-7 overall, the Trojans have hit peaks and valleys this season but have not let that kept them from moving forward.

“We’re a lot better than when we started,” Hartley said. “We were losing to some teams we shouldn’t lose to and that was motivation for us.”

While there was no singular turning point for Sikes’ squad, she feels the team has improved since the start of the season.

“I feel a lot better about this team now than I did at the beginning of the year,” she said. “We have a ton of athletes but they have worked really hard to improve.”

Charles Henderson is matched against the same Carroll team they defeated yesterday in the area tournament which begins Tuesday. The brackets have yet to be released.

Charles Henderson and Carroll will join Eufaula and Rehobeth in the four team tournament.

The Trojans finished the season 4-2 in region play, good enough to earn the second seed. Carroll is seeded third.

Rehobeth, who is 6-0 in the region, won the top seed and will play fourth seed Eufaula.

The top two teams will advance to play in the regional tournament with the winner of the area bracket hosting the round.

The Trojans know work is needed if they plan to hang around in postseason play.

“We have to be more consistent,” Hartley said. “We have to communicate better and work as a team.”

Hartley feels that the team’s hitters could carry them deep into the tournament.

“Our hitter have gotten stronger,” she said. “If we can get good passes and sets we will do really well.”

If Charles Henderson defeats Carroll in the first round, either Eufaula or Rehobeth will be waiting.

The Trojans were 2-0 against Eufaula this season but were winless against the top-ranked Rehobeth squad.

“It’s going to be a big test to beat Rehobeth,” Hartley said. “We’ve got to beat Carroll first but we really want to host regionals.”

The area brackets will be released later this week.
