JACK – You won’t hear any Cinderella talk in Jack these days. It’s all about now.

Zion Chapel is 4-1 to start a season for the first time since 1994 but that isn’t on the minds of anyone in the red and white.

“Everyone is excited about how things have gone,” head coach Mike Waters said. “But I’ve been in this game long enough to know your luck can turn quickly.”

It may be cliche but taking the season one game at a time has been the mind-set for a squad who has averaged only three wins per season over the last decade.

“One game at a time is the only way you can look at it,” Waters said. “We can’t look ahead to anything.”

What the Rebels (4-1, 2-1) could be looking at dead in the eye is their first playoff appearance in five years with their last postseason victory coming in 1979.

One key factor behind the Rebels early success has been belief.

“These guys have bought into the system and work really hard at it,” said Waters.

Zion Chapel can prove themselves playoff contenders with a homecoming victory over New Brockton tonight.

“We run to win, we don’t just run to run,” Waters said of his team’s conditioning program. “We have realized that the effort pays off and are seeing the results.”

The Gamecocks defeated Zion Chapel 28-13 last season.

Homecoming ceremonies will take place prior to kickoff which is set for 7 p.m.
