Pike County (0-4 Overall, 0-3 Region) at Goshen (2-2, 2-1)

This in-county matchup highlights Friday’s action as one team is quickly rising in the standings while the other has hit rock bottom.

Pike County will play game one under interim coach Fred Holland, who stepped in after Rodney Dollar was placed on leave for medical reasons. The Bulldogs are 0-4 with many questions still looming under yet another head coach.

Goshen has improved drastically since their season opening loss to G.W. Long. The Eagles are 2-1 in region play and may have played their best defensive game in a loss to top ranked Elba.

Even with this being a non-region contest, either team will benefit greatly from a victory.

Hooper (4-1, 1-1) at PLAS (2-2, 1-2)

The Patriots will name a new queen and court. Oh, and don’t forget the football game. Pike destroyed the Colts 58-8 last season but have some maintenance to do on both sides of the ball.

No, doubt the Patriots are still a state title contender but they are still in search of that little something to put them over the hump.

CHHS (2-2, 2-1) at Greenville (3-1, 3-0)

Charles Henderson looks to rebound from a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to Valley last week in the game’s waning moments.

The Trojans will continue their attempt in offensive diversification after producing only 344 passing yards in their four games.

The defense is looking solid despite numerous underclassmen receiving vast amounts of playing time.

The Trojans have faced off against Greenville 58 in the past and lost 35-21 a year ago.

Zion Chapel (3-1, 2-1) at Kinston (0-4, 0-2)

If there were ever a team to root for, this year’s Rebels would be it. At 3-1, Zion Chapel has equaled their win total from the past two seasons combined. The last time the Rebels took four games in a season was 2008 and have not won more than that in five seasons.

Albeit a non-region game, the momentum gained from a 4-1 start could be long lasting for the Rebels.
