CHHS looking for offensive consistency against Tallassee

Charles Henderson head coach Hugh Fountian will be the first to admit his team missed several opportunities to win last week’s game against Beauregard.

The Trojans fell 21-14 to the Hornets to open the 2011 season. Fortunately, Fountain feels the issues that caused CHHS to come up short are fixable.

“We didn’t execute offensively,” the coach said. “It’s that simple.”

“We looked good at times but the things we didn’t do well are our fault.”

One of the problems the Trojans aim to fix is not allowing a talented linebacker like Dake Rivers to run unblocked.

The junior made three consecutive tackles behind the line of scrimmage with his team leading by seven to force CHHS into a fourth and goal from the 8-yard line. The subsequent pass attempt was batted down and the Hornets preserved the lead.

“We let him run free,” Fountain said. “When you get the ball on the 1-yard line you got to find a way to score.”

The Trojans did get a solid performance from Courtney Downing who rushed for 160 yards on 24 carries.

“He’s producing the way we thought he would,” said Fountain. “But we’ve got to produce in other ways offensively more consistently.”

Charles Henderson will take on Tallassee Friday night on the road.

While the Tigers sport a new head coach (Rodney Dollar left for Pike County), Fountain doesn’t feel much will change.

“They’re going to be talented. They have the same offensive and defensive coordinators so they should some of the same things as last year. But you never know. We have to prepare for anything.” Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
