James Elwin Byrd Jr.

Memorial services for James Elwin Byrd Jr., 50, of Arlington, Va., who died Aug. 15, 2011, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at New Harmony Baptist Church in Luverne.

Mr. Byrd graduated from Luverne High School in 1979 and later from Troy State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Elwyn Byrd Sr. of Luverne, and his grandparents, Clarence Byrd and Nora Simmons Byrd of Luverne and Lewis Nunnellee of Shellhorn and Ruby Little Nunnellee Johnson of Jack.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby Faye Nunnelee Byrd of Mobile; a sister and her husband, Jennifer and Steve Laboe of Lauderdale, Miss.; and a niece, Kristen Nelson of Lauderdale.
