The Bow-Wow Pow-Wow is the place to be for abandoned dogs and pups.

It’s about the best place in the world to find a “forever” home to be shared with a kind and loving family or someone who is living alone and needs a “best friend.”

But all the adoptable dogs and pups can do is show up Saturday and hope that they won’t leave to go back to the animal shelter but rather to a new home.

The Pike Animal Shelter’s quarterly Bow-Wow Pow-Wow Adoption event will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at Tractor Supply Company in Troy.

Kristin Strickland, Shelter member, said the Bow-Wow Pow-Wows always have some really great dogs are available and the Shelter members look forward to finding “forever” homes for them.

Donna Schubert, chair of the Shelter’s Founders Society, said only two adoptable dogs are expected for Saturday’s Bow-Wow Pow-Wow but they both will make nice pets.

“We have these adoption events quarterly in order to bring dogs out and give the public a chance to see them without having go to the shelter,” Schubert said. “We appreciate the City of Troy for helping us to make these adoption events happen.”

Schubert said that Tractor Supply is great partner for the Pike Animal Shelter.

“Tractor Supply allows us to set up an adoption area inside the store and that’s a tremendous help to us,” she said. And, it’s much more comfortable for those who come to the Bow-Wow Pow-Wows.”

The Pike Animal Shelter/Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, Inc. is in the process of raising funds to build a state-of-the-art animal shelter on Coalition-owned property on the Henderson Highway.

Schubert said the fundraising efforts continue to make progress.

“We have what we need to start construction as soon as the city makes a decision as to what contributions they can make to the project,” she said. “We are hoping a decision will be made as soon as possible because it matters to the dogs that are abandoned and often abused.”

The Pike Animal Shelter/Troy Animal Shelter Coalition always welcomes new members. Annual dues are $20 and memberships will be available at all Bow-Wow Pow-Wows.

“Members are given a bone-shaped decal for their cars in appreciation for their willingness to help animals,” Schubert said.
