The Pike County Extension Office will host the 2011 Grassroots Assessment Meeting on Tuesday at Cattleman Park.

The meeting will bring together members of different local agencies and organizations that are involved in the county’s Extension program as well as 4-H parents and volunteers.

“The meeting is a great opportunity to discuss Extension programming accomplishments over the past year and take time to look forward to the future as the Pike County Extension Office partners with our community,” said Grant Lyons, who is the new Pike County Extension coordinator.

“I’m doing my best to get out and meet the good folks of Pike County,” Lyons said. “One of my goals for our office is to be visible in the community and provide frequent updates on what our office is working on to help make the lives of the people of Pike County better.”

Lyons said the 2011 Grassroots Assessment Meeting is one way for him and his office to get input from the community as to ideas about programming for the coming year.

“The meeting will include breakout sessions of 20 minutes each and participants will be able to choose the sessions that meet their interests,” he said. “Following the sessions, we will reconvene and have a brief open discussion where we hear feedback from a representative of each session.”

The findings from the meeting will be relayed to the state office to be used in the planning of statewide programs where applicable.

Lyons said the meeting on Tuesday is very important to the Pike County Extension office as well as the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

“I hope everyone who is involved with the Pike County Extension program will be in attendance,” he said.
