Mr. Omer Gunter of Virginia Beach, Virginia (formally of Brundidge) died Friday, August 12, 2011 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was 61. Funeral services for Omer Gunter will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at Springfield Baptist Church in Brundidge with Dr. Chuck Blair and Rev. Ken Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Skeen Funeral Home in Brundidge. The family will also receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Omer Gunter was born July 30, 1950 in Montgomery, son of the late Carroll “Bud” Gunter and Fannie Mae Hodge Gunter. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until 2008 when he moved to Virginia Beach. Omer ministered to the people who are not ready to go. He is survived by a sister, Joanner Davenport of Troy; two half brothers, Bobby Williams and Ray Williams and a half sister, Agnes Holman, all of Alexander City; 5 nieces, Jeannie Warren and Carol Draper, both of Virginia Beach, VA; Shirley Lee and Betty Jo Davis, both of Troy; and Vivian Whitten of Savannah, GA; and a nephew, Randall Davenport of Troy. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Erma Jean Daniels and Hazel Bowers.
