The Celebrate Recovery program at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Troy has changed its meeting from Sunday nights to 6:30 p.m. Monday nights at the church at 2702 Henderson Highway.

The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power through the eight recovery principles found in the Beatitudes and Christ-centered 12 Steps.

The program is under the direction of Hephzibah’s ministry leader Rusty Barefoot.

“We open the door by sharing our experiences, victories and hopes with one another,” Barefoot said. “In addition, we become willing to accept God’s grace in solving our life problems.”

Barefoot said that, by working the Christ-centered steps and applying their biblical principles found in the Beatitudes, participants began to grow spiritually and become free from addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behavior.

“This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and stronger personal relationship with God and others,” he said. “As we progress through the principles and the steps, we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power, Jesus Christ.”

The Celebrate Recovery small groups provide opportunities to hear from those who have gone through a similar hurt, hang-up or habit.

Celebrate Recovery includes groups directed toward chemical dependence (individual groups for men and women), codependency (individual groups for men and women), physical/emotional and sexual abuse (individual group for women), adult children of family dysfunction (individual groups for men), sexual addiction (individual groups for men and women), eating disorders and food addiction (individual groups for women), women’s love and relationship addiction, codependent women in a relationship with a sexually addicted man, recovery from anger (individual groups for men and women), financial recovery (individual groups for men and women) and same sex attraction (individual men’s group).

Barefoot said that Celebrate Recovery is many things to many people – a place of belonging, sharing, learning, growing and a place to take off your mask and care for others and be care for. Celebrate Recovery can possibly be a turning point in one’s life.”

Celebrate Recovery is in its 20th year and programs are under way all across the United States. Other area sites are in Montgomery and Dothan.
