The Pike County Firefighter’s Association will be hosting “Rumble Around the County 2011,” which is a fundraising motorcycle ride around the county to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Jennifer Register, event planner for the Pike County Firefighter’s Association, said the fundraiser is for a worthwhile cause and will be a fun trip around Pike County.

“It’s our annual bike ride,” Register said. “Every year we have a nice ride around the county, showing off Pike County’s wonderful sites and we will be going to five of the nine volunteer firefighter departments where we will be taking little breaks between rides.”

Register said all the proceeds from the fundraising effort will go directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“We are trying to raise money for children who need treatment,” Register said.

The event will be held on Aug. 13 and registration will start at 7 a.m. that morning.

The ride will start at the Pike County Fire and Rescue at 509 Orion St. in Troy and will continue to Saco, Brundidge, Spring Hill, Goshen and back to the rescue building for lunch.

Register said the entry fee will be $20 per driver and $10 for each passenger and if anyone wants to donate money the Muscular Dystrophy Association, then they can show up at the Pike County Fire and Rescue on Aug. 13 and donate at the registration table.

Register said she would like to encourage anyone that is the least bit interested in participating to ride for someone they know who may be suffering from muscular dystrophy or for any healthy individual.

“If you have ever seen a child with muscular dystrophy, you try and tell them ‘no,’” Register said. “You can’t tell a child with muscular dystrophy ‘no, I can’t participate in this.’ If you have healthy children or grand-children, then ride for them.”
