The Pike County Young Professionals are hosting a “Cheers for Children!” charity event at The Studio on Thursday, Aug. 4.

The charity event is a First Thursday event at The Studio and will benefit the Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin that received heavy damage in the April 27 tornadoes that ripped through Alabama. The Children’s Harbor serves seriously ill children and their families. The event will also benefit the Johnson Center for the Arts.

“ The primary goal of Pike County Young Professionals is to give back to our community and the state of Alabama,” said PCYP president, Steven Schmidt. “‘Cheers for Children’ is our first charity event to aid those affected by the tornados in April. Children’s Harbor, which is located at Lake Martin, was one of those victims.

“As young professionals, we love what ‘Cheers for Children’ is doing for sick children and their families and we wanted to make sure that they are up and running as soon possible.

“PCYP is looking forward to this event and we invite everyone to come and support this great cause through a fun evening of music with friends. “

Richard Metzger, arts center director, said “Cheers for Children” will be conducted just like a regular First Thursday at The Studio.

“‘Cheers for Children will be a ‘bring a picnic and cooler’ event, which is like an indoor tailgate party,” Metzger said. “Entertainment will be presented by Mike Peacock, JB Roberts and Erica Franklin and others. The music will be folk, country, rock and some old standards.”

Admission to “Cheers for Children” is $20 per person. Tables for10 may be reserved by calling 566-2294.

“For this charitable event, the reserved tables are $20 per person also,” Metzger said. “Reserving a table for 10 means that you’ll get to sit at a table together. Other seating is random.”

Those who can’t attend “Cheers for Children” are encouraged to make a donation to this worthwhile event.

Doors will open a little later than at the usual First Thursday concerts. The Studio doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the entertainment will be from 7 until 10 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased at the Johnson Center for the Arts, Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Half Shell and Troy Cable.
