Troy seeks wastewater grant

The Troy City Council worked from a short agenda Tuesday that included a presentation by Marge Florence Barrow, who made an appeal to the citizens of Troy for each and every one to make a difference in the community by making constructive use of their time and talents.

In council action, the council approved a resolution giving the mayor the authority to make application for an ADECA (Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs) grant for a wastewater improvements project in the amount of $650,000. The city’s grant match will be 25 percent or $162,500.

Mayor Jimmy Lunsford said the grant funds will be used to develop the infrastructure to support the Golden Boy Food industry.

With more water coming into the system, Lunsford said improvements are needed to the city’s wastewater system. It is an economic development project.

The council voted to make appropriations to the Industrial Development Board in the amount of $200,000, which is a payment on the expenses of the recent industrial project.

In closing action, Councilman Charles Meeks was appointed to the PATS Steering committee.
